In transformers, there’s a part called a conservator that holds special oil. This oil protects the transformer from power surges. When the transformer works hard, it gets hot, which makes the oil expand. As it cools down, the oil contracts, creating space for air. If this air has moisture, it can make the oil dirty and harm the transformer.
To prevent this, transformers use something called silica gel breathers. These are like little containers filled with crystals. These crystals soak up the moisture from the air, keeping the oil clean and the transformer safe.
